I recieve quite a few spam emails, and most of them end up in the trash bin before I even consider opening them. Today, for some reason, I decided to open a mass mailing from my cell phone carrier, which just so happens to be one of the most popular ones, Verizon Wireless.
Inside was a list of the most-downloaded ringtones. The number one ringtone on the list is the song “I Kissed A Girl” by Katy Perry. You can bet that almost all of those ringtones are not on adult cell phones. Now, I know that this song has been on the radio for a long time now. I heard it almost as soon as they started playing it and was immediately shocked. I also noticed that one of my friends posted a warning about this song on his blog in June, for which I was grateful. Unquestionably, the boundary lines keep getting pushed further and further in the mainstream media. Here’s another recent example: I was shocked just the other day to see two men full-on making out on a daytime soap opera. I saw this not because I watch soap operas, but because I was in a nursing home on my job. How many elderly people, or even young children who were off from school, were subjected to it? I shudder to think of my grandpa, who is unable to change the channel, having to watch this display.
Where is the line between tolerance and acceptance? How can Christians show these people that we care for them out of love while still standing up for Biblical truth? Is there anything that we can or even should do about it? These questions have to be answered (and answered well) before our entire nation and way of life disappears forever, never to return again. Whatever action Christians DO take on the issue of homosexuality, I am persuaded that it should be complimented with a clear understanding of the idea of the total depravity of man. Basically, all men, without the redemptive power of Christ, are depraved and unregenerate, regardless of what good they do. Life is meant to be God-centered, not man-centered.

I really like your blog. Its admirable to see that there are still some Christians out there who don’t feel as though God’s word on homosexuality should be ignored. My boyfriend told me that recently, there was a poll taken stating that a large majority of so-called Christians believed that homosexuality is acceptable. Its really discouraging and scary to think that one day, our children might be punished for even defending this area of our faith. The word of the Lord is truth, and this truth is unchangeable. If more people were to really observe the word of God, the more that they should come to realize the truth.
Keep up this blog (:
God can really use you as his tool.
and thanks for posting this up. I’m glad that I came across it.

Thanks for the encouragement and thanks for reading! I created this blog with the idea of encouraging others in their faith and discussing important issues that Christians are dealing with on a regular basis. Homosexuality is just one of those issues, albeit it is becoming increasingly larger as time progresses. It’s a hot topic, which is obvious from the amount of traffic that has already been generated since I posted this blog. Since I posted, I have been considering the different viewpoints within Christianity regarding homosexuality, and I think that will be the topic of another upcoming post. It would be pointless to post new topics as a comment.
Thanks again!

I occasionally check in on secular music to see what’s playing. I heard this song as well and I was taken aback by how indeed the boundary lines of morality are being pushed lower and lower.
It also reminded me of that song “promiscuous girl”.
NPR once did a story on how recent songs and how Hip Hop is crossing such lines here
The funny thing is that the interviewer seems to feel that it’s merely a generational difference, and that older generations had their “scandalous songs”.
generally, the public seems to think that it’s just an issue of getting “used to it” and that it’s perhaps even progressive.
that’s unfortunate. I really hope that the US doesn’t come crumbling down in its morality to a point where everything is allowed for the sake of this pseudo-virtue called ‘tolerance’.
Tolerance is only virtuous in the context of love in my opinion, not in the context of allowing moral looseness and corruption.
